$675k grant to get women and girls into sport in Braddon

The women’s sport agenda is rapidly growing, and I am thrilled that women and girls in Braddon will find it easier and more enjoyable to play sport because of a $675k grant to the Leven Pony Club.

Leven Pony Club was selected to receive the funding under the Australian Government’s $200 million Play Our Way program, which is designed to remove barriers to women and girls participating in sport and physical activity.

It will use the money to establish an equestrian equipment library as a value for money way to provide continued opportunity for women and girls to participate and train in Olympic equestrian disciplines in Tasmania.

Leven Pony Club is one of the many groups around the nation which will receive Play Our Way funding for participation programs, or new or modified equipment suitable for women and girls across a range of sports and physical activity programs.

Improving and increasing the participation of women and girls in sport is essential to reap the associated social, mental and physical benefits and I am thrilled that the Play Our Way program is supporting the realisation of these benefits.”

I am confident the Leven Pony Club’s establishment of an equestrian equipment library will ensure a sport that girls and women of all ages have enjoyed and benefited from for over 60 years in Tasmania, will remain accessible.”
