Tasmanian Government to pick up GP HECS Debt

Sep11,2024

The GP Incentive Package will include a $100,000 settlement allowance for GPs to practice in rural and regional areas of the State. The settlement allowance will be spread over five years, with 10 per cent paid at the end of the first year, followed by 20 per cent, 30 per cent, and 40 per cent at the completion of Year 4.

The allowance is in addition to the Commonwealth HELP Scheme of 100 per cent elimination of HECS debt for doctors working in eligible remote and rural areas.

The Tasmanian Government is also offering eligible GP clinics across Tasmania’s North West Coast grants of up to $250,000 to ensure they can continue to operate and provide the care Tasmanians need.

Multi-year funding is now available to support the viability of eligible GP practices in regional, rural and outer-urban parts of Tasmania.

Member for Braddon, Felix Ellis, said the grants will allow eligible GPs to enhance their current services to the benefit of all Tasmanians.

The Voice is looking forward to seeing more GPs on the North West Coast! Big thank you to the Tasmanian Government for this initiative.
