The late Gavin Larkin started R U OK? in 2009
Hoping to protect others from experiencing the pain his family felt when his father died by suicide. He believed that ‘in the time it takes to have a cuppa, you could start a conversation that could change a life’. This September and October the R U OK? Conversation Convoy is touring Tasmania with Ulverstone and the North West Coast set to host a number of community and workplace events.
Ask R U OK? Any Day is the key message for this year’s national day of action on Thursday September 12th
Ulverstone resident and R U OK? Community Ambassador Greg Smith encourages everyone to check in regularly with people in their life, especially those who might be going through a tough time.
“You don’t need to be an expert or have any formal training to help a mate, co-worker or family member. Offering to listen and not trying to fix whatever is going on for them can often make a huge difference, it shows them someone cares.”
Before the AFL Grand Final kicks off on Saturday September 28th, join the men from Mr Perfect and the R U OK? Conversation Convoy team at the Wharf in Ulverstone where you can enjoy a free snag and coffee while connecting with local community and sporting groups. The R U OK? Conversation Convoy team will also be on hand sharing resources, merchandise and information about how to have an R U OK? Conversation with someone you care about.
The following day, Sunday 29th September The Man Walk are hosting a free community walk and talk
With the weekly The Man Walk Ulverstone crew leading the R U OK? Conversation Convoy team and walkers of any age and ability for a wander around the shores of the River Leven before returning to McCarthy’s Bread Lounge in Reibey Street to share in a specially prepared ‘Conversation Starter Pie’.
