The Penguin Bowls Club recently celebrated the remarkable 43rd year of its prestigious Classic Pairs tournament, a three-day event that continues to draw bowlers from across Australia. This year’s competition saw a staggering 105 pairs, comprising 210 individuals, descend on the coastal town of Penguin, transforming it into a hub of bowling prowess. Participants hailed from all corners of Tasmania, as well as interstate locations including Darwin, Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales, and even Alice Springs.
The influx of visitors provided a significant boost to local hospitality providers. The tournament itself was a resounding success. Emerging victorious were Victorian bowler Dylan Fisher and his remarkably talented young partner, 15-year-old Lachie Thurley from Ulverstone. Their impressive performance earned them the top spot, while Colin Willcox and Eden Moore secured a commendable second place.
The Penguin Classic Pairs tournament is known for its substantial prize money – a good reward for all the hard work. Remarkably, the event is entirely self-funded, a testament to the dedication and organizational skills of the Penguin Bowls Club.
The tournament’s reputation extends beyond Tasmania, holding a prominent position on the Australian Ranking Points list. This recognition underscores the high standard of competition and further solidifies the Penguin Classic Pairs as a must-attend event for serious bowlers.
The Penguin Bowls Club extends its sincere gratitude to the Ulverstone, Burnie, and South Burnie Bowls Clubs for their invaluable support. This collaborative effort ensures the smooth running of the tournament and highlights the strong sense of community within the Tasmanian bowling fraternity.
