The Northwest Lacemaking group is part of the Tasmanian Branch of the Australian Lace Guild. We meet on the first Saturday of the month at the Ulverstone Secondary College. We are a group of enthusiastic lacemakers with an aim to keep the art of handmade lace alive. Our members come from all along the coast from Yolla to Latrobe.
Most of us make bobbin lace but we do have some members who make tatted lace, knitted lace or crocheted lace. We make a variety of items from our lace including Christmas decorations, jewellery, table ware edgings and lace for special occasions. We hold displays and working demonstrations at several events in the north of the State including the Tasmanian Craft Fair, The Expo of Everything and Home Hill Garden Fete. At all these events we have a “come and try” pillow where we encourage people to try their hand at lacemaking.
We offer free tuition and new lacemakers can hire a basic lacemaking kit for a nominal fee.
We welcome anyone and everyone of any age to join us at our monthly meeting to learning the craft of handmade lace. If you would like to join us, please contact Michele on 0418 307 576 or Janet on 0447254161 for more information.
