Over 500 men in the North West have enjoyed a ‘Mr Perfect BBQ’ since the first event was held in Ulverstone back in 2020. Whilst the burgers and sausage sandwiches are popular, it’s the conversations and camaraderie that make it more than a BBQ.
Since 2020, Mr Perfect has grown with monthly BBQ’s now held across the North West in Ulverstone, Port Sorell, Devonport and Sheffield with a new BBQ starting in Wynyard on February 23
Ulverstone resident and volunteer Mr Perfect BBQ host Greg Smith said “The conversations we have are wide ranging and valuable. One minute you could be talking about fishing or gardening and the next thing we’re discussing suicide prevention or prostate health.”
Having mates and social connections is known to help with wellbeing but men often find it difficult to maintain meaningful relationships over time due to work and family commitments. Dealing with changes in personal or work relationships, health issues, experiencing grief or financial stress can take its toll and not having a trusted support network to lean on can make things tougher.
Mr Smith added, “We have mixed ages and life experience in men attending the BBQ’s which makes it a little easier for anyone new to feel welcome.”
Men of all ages are welcome to attend between 11am and 12:30pm on Sunday February 2nd 2025. Burgers, sausage sandwiches and non-alcoholic drinks are provided, anyone wishing to attend with special dietary requests is asked to contact Greg on 0400 604 231 to organise.
