Love Your Pain (Why Bad Things Happen to Good People).

By Laurence V Harrould

His book explores, from a unique perspective, the reasons we experience pain and how to respond to it.

As he says; “In life, pain is obligatory but suffering is optional. By understanding the purpose of pain we can deal with it differently.”

He uses the analogy of walking along a corridor and hearing a woman screaming. You rush into the room and are confronted by a group of masked people surrounding the woman. One of them has a knife and is about to stab her. What’s your reaction? Common responses are: “run away”, “find a weapon or way to save her” etc.

If we add extra context: this is a birthing room and the woman is in labour – our reaction changes. It doesn’t remove the pain and mess but, instead of fear, we experience joy.

Laurence points out that it took him 25 years to get the book written and a year to understand the self publishing process after being rejected by a number of publishers (all the best writers have had that experience). For this he is grateful to the Fellowship Of Australian Writers North West (FAWNW) for their mentoring and support.

He is thrilled the book is now a reality and available in bookstores, online and directly (laurence@laurencevharrould.com).

There will be an author event at Paper & Cup Cafe in Sheffield on December 19th 2024 starting at 5pm.
