It Takes A Village – Central Coast – Kate Wylie

It Takes a Village (ITAV) is a vibrant parent and family support group based in the Central Coast and funded through Health Consumers Tasmania. Late last year, ITAV unveiled an exciting upgrade to the parenting room in Carpark Lane, Ulverstone—a colourful mural titled “Cheeky Devils”. Commissioned from a talented local artist, the mural is a playful and engaging piece designed to attract people of all ages. Parents using the space to change or feed their little ones can enjoy the cheerful atmosphere while searching for the mischievous “cheeky devils” hidden within the artwork. This addition not only brightens the space but fosters a sense of community and creativity.

In addition to the mural, ITAV has spearheaded several impactful projects. Over 100 children’s books by Dr. Karen Young have been distributed amongst the community as a ‘read and pass forward model’ to promote children’s mental health. The group has also hosted seminars by Dr. Young and Dr. Kristine Bull, focusing on supporting children with anxiety and depression. A standout initiative has been funding 20 local children to participate in a 15-week Brain Boot Camp led by Dr. Bull.

Other accomplishments include providing dignity bags for women birthing in emergency situations at NW Hospital and hosting Nature Play Sessions for children.
Looking ahead, ITAV is collaborating with Central Coast Council on small grants for parenting support initiatives and working with Ulverstone Community Garden to create a children’s play and garden space – more details to come!!

ITAV meets monthly at Bluegum CFLC, welcoming families to share ideas and get involved. Follow us on Facebook: It Takes a Village – Central Coast, or contact Kate Wylie at katelwylie@gmail.com
