For Photography Enthusiasts – Kingsley Clark

The Ulverstone Camera Club was formed in 1963 and has continued to have a strong presence on the Northwest Coast of Tasmania. We focus on the social enjoyment of photography at any level and encourage all members to be involved in the workshops and outings striving to learn and improve their skills.

Monthly photographic challenges encourage members to seek out subjects and submit photos to the challenge theme. Monthly challenges are intended to create interest, promote activity and exercise your skills and imagination without being competitive. Recent challenge themes have included, “Leading Lines”, “Blue Hour”, “Negative Space”, “Blurred Background” and “Ordinary Extraordinary”. The idea being to experiment with your camera, themes and subjects. In doing so practice using your camera and its various functions plus techniques to improve your photography and artistic flair.

We share our images on the screen at meetings, for review by members, to reflect on the photos, consider improvements for next time and be inspired by others. It’s not a competition but can be competitive in a friendly way.

Club workshops bring members together to try techniques, learn from others and experiment. Recent workshops have included, “Painting with Light”, “Macro”, Portraiture”, “Still Life” and “Architecture”. Whether it be in our clubrooms or walking the streets we try different techniques and capture some amazing images. Later we’ll come together and share our images.

The image below is from our Light Painting workshop where we met at the Penguin Beach after dark and waved coloured lights or fireballs around to capture some amazing images. We aren’t professionals, membership is open to any skill level from beginners to experienced. A reasonably modern digital camera and a tripod is ideal for most club activities.

You can see some of our members’ activity and challenge submissions shared on our “Ulverstone Camera Club” public Facebook page.

Meetings are held every second Wednesday between 7:00pm and 9:00pm, either at the Red Cross Hall, 49 King Edward Street Ulverstone or at an outdoor location in the local area. Visitors and New members are always welcome. For more information come along to our meeting or email “ulvcameraclub@gmail.com”
