By Pam Ingram, Life Member of the South Riana Hall Committee (and Mrs Claus)
The Memorial Hall at South Riana was turned into a wonderland of Christmas lights for a couple of hours in the afternoon of Sunday 15th December.
In one corner was a glorious Christmas tree, in another a group of native Aussie animals were celebrating Christmas in the bush (with a ring-in from another land waiting to be spotted by the children in their treasure hunt).
Santa and Mrs Claus sat in another corner greeting wide-eyed children with a ‘Ho,ho,ho!’ and a pre-Christmas gift of lollies. The children were excited to share their wish-list with Santa, and have their photo taken.
The treasure hunt was a great success, with so many things to discover –from wise men to naughty elves; silver icicles to glittering stars; and reindeer to special bon bons. Children clutching pen and paper excitedly scoured the hall to discover the treasure items.
In the lead up to the Lights Display the hall invited the community to submit entries in a Colouring-in competition, first prize being a hamper of goods worth over $100. Another prize was awarded by means of a lucky draw. Judging took place during the Lights Display.
Families came from far and wide to share in the festive season. Central Coast Mayor, Cheryl Fuller, also made a visit, dressed in appropriate festive attire.
The committee had put in many hours at the hall to string the variety of lights and arrange the Christmas decorations. They also prepared a delicious array of finger food for all to enjoy.
Well done to everyone. You did us proud.
