Book Review by Jane
Australian author Christian White havs delivered his fourth, and in my opinion, best thriller to date. Set in a small town in Christian’s home state of Victoria, the story follows a group of boys as awkward teenagers and how their actions in 1999 affect them as adults. It forces you to ask yourself; how loyal would you be to your friends, what are you prepared to cover up for them and how long would you keep their secrets?
Human remains are found in the forest of a small town and the police have no leads The town is full of gossip that the teenage runaway from 20 years ago could finally have been found. News of the find reaches around the state and forces a troubled young man in the throes of divorce and deadlines to head back to his hometown, breaking his personal vow never to return.
He returns to find his group of friends, now grown men, starting to panic, worried that their secret from decades ago could be about to be exposed. The book moves between past and present seamlessly and when you least expect it, delivers a one word twist that will have you questioning everything about the story you thought you knew. I thoroughly recommend this.
