Adventure Weekend for Pooches

 By Lisa Fagg

The Central Coast region may be small but Dog Friendly Places Tasmania says it packs a punch with some fabulous dog friendly hikes, major tourist attractions, gardens, and places to eat worth visiting for memorable dog adventures. A perfect weekend adventure with my dog would be something like the following.

Day One – we love hiking in the Dial Ranges. The best way to get to the couple of dog friendly hikes, Mt Gnomon Lookout and Mount Duncan Track, is via Ironcliffe Road. Don’t enter via Montgomery Road or hike Mount Montgomery as this is the State Reserve and NOT dog friendly. After a hike, Mt Gnomon Farm’s outdoor eatery is dog friendly for a bite to eat.

Day two -going further inland did you know that Kaydale Lodge Gardens is dog friendly? It’s on the way to Leven Canyon, so stop in and wander round the stunning cool climate gardens with your dog on lead. Keep an eye out for the kitty cats though. Open from September 14th to May 1st.

Continuing along Loongana Road from Kaydale Lodge don’t miss Leven Canyon. Take in Cruikshanks Lookout and Edge Lookout. Tip: many tourists and locals forget Leven Canyon Floor Walk a little further down Loongana Road. Parking is on the roadside. This walk descends to the valley floor with a bridge over the limestone ravine. When the water is thundering below after heavy rain, the roar and mist is amazing! Have a great dog friendly weekend!
