Central Coast Council is developing a new Housing Strategy, Our Homes, Our Future, in partnership with consultants Ethos Urban. This strategy will guide residential development for the next 20 years and aims to meet the current and future housing needs of the community. It focuses on providing sustainable, affordable, and inclusive housing options for all residents.
The project will address key issues like housing diversity, affordability, and accessibility while supporting the region’s economic and population growth. It includes the creation of a Housing Strategy that will guide rezoning, development controls, and planning processes. A Strategic Housing Master Plan will also be developed to determine where and how sustainable housing growth should occur.
Council’s Director of Strategic Growth, Daryl Connelly, emphasised the importance of this project: “Housing is a critical issue in our area. Our Homes, Our Future will ensure everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and help attract new workers and residents while supporting our ageing population.”
The project is funded by the Commonwealth Government and will include in-depth studies on economics, transport, and infrastructure to ensure evidence-based planning decisions.
The community will have a chance to provide input through public consultations, various focus groups and a community survey open until 12 November. This feedback will be used to shape a strategy that reflects the community’s needs and aspirations.
