The state budget was delivered in Parliament on September 12, and it highlighted some of the financial challenges currently faced by the state. Tasmania’s record debt is now worse than any other state, and the budget is full of cuts to public services that we rely on. During budget estimate hearings, I have been advocating for the government to do something about the number of potholes on north west roads because they are dangerous and the damage caused to vehicles.

Labor delivered our budget reply on September 17, which included an outline of the initial ten measures for budget repair we would implement to help bring Tasmania’s finances under control. We also announced a new policy to give the Coordinator-General new powers to cut through red tape, accelerate new projects for Tasmania and get things done.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my excitement about the upcoming ‘Summer on Ice’ Christmas event being held by Central Coast Council. The Council plans to create something truly magical and affordable for all to enjoy. I can’t wait to see the smiles on the faces of young and old and I just might even take a twirl on the ice!
