This week on Mt Duncan in the Dial Range, a UHF CB Repeater station was finalised by the North West Tasmania Amateur Radio Club. It has been in the planning stages for a fair while and has come to fruition with the efforts of the club members.
The point of using a repeater is to extend the UHF CB users radio coverage area. Anyone in range of the repeater can talk to anyone else who is in range of it.
Radio coverage is reasonably extensive along the north west coast. The typical coverage area is from west of Wynyard to east of Devonport and south of Sheffield, Hampshire.
This is available for the public to use at no cost. The installation of a CB radio with UHF facility will give road users, off road 4-wheel drive enthusiasts, farmers, bushwalkers and others a very useful means of communicating with others along the coast.
Currently the repeater is operational, and signal reports are welcomed. To access the repeater, choose channel 44 on your UHF CB radio then select “Duplex” or “Repeater” operation.
The North West Tasmania AMATEUR RADIO CLUB meets Bi-Monthly February, April, June, August, October, December. On the 1st Saturday at 1.30pm. Visit the club rooms at Scout Hall, 73 Alexandra Road Ulverstone
