Ulverstone’s very own Degree C has teamed up with global lighting design firm Mandylights to bring “From Sky To Sea” to life at Devonport’s Roundhouse Park. This nightly spectacle, set to open in July, will take viewers on a visual journey following the Mersey River from Cradle Mountain all the way to Bass Strait.
This project, funded by three government departments to the tune of $3 million, has heavily relied on local businesses for the installation. Degree C handled the design, fabrication, and installation of the towers, and installation of the lighting and audio hardware, turning this ambitious vision into reality.
Workshop Visit
The Voice visited Degree C’s Ulverstone office, where we spoke with Stuart Mathews and Trent Madden about the intricate electronics behind the light show. The installation features 12 stunning pillars and 6 internal pillars packed with lights and digital equipment, all working together to create a 14-minute sequence of sound and light. Each light is meticulously controlled by a network of computers to perfectly narrate the story.
Inside Degree C’s workshop, we saw the impressive array of manufacturing equipment used to design and build these installations. Before the pillars were erected, the workshop was buzzing with activity, creating and assembling lights and panels. The external pillar panels are made from Corten Steel, these will develop a protective rust coating over time, eliminating the need to paint the metal and maintain the painted surface.
