The Central Coast is buzzing with excitement as the region gears up for a series of arts and science events. Jessie Pangas from the Hive shared updates on the recent school holidays and upcoming programs during an interview on Coast FM. “We’ve been flat out this school holidays,” Pangas said. “We had more than a thousand people through each week doing workshops, coming to planetarium shows, having lots of fun in the Science Centre.”
In addition to the holiday activities, the Central Coast Council is developing an arts and culture strategy. “We want to hear from everyone in the community,” Pangas emphasized. The feedback collection will run from July 22nd to the end of August, with online forms and paper submissions available at various locations, including the Central Coast Admin Centre, the Penguin Service Centre, and the Hive. “We really just want to hear from everyone and anyone living in the Central Coast about what you love about this place, what makes it special, and what you’d like to see happen in terms of arts and culture in our community,” Pangas added.
National Science Week kicks off on August 10th with a Family Science Day at the Hive. “We have a Science Centre Expo, young Tassie scientists visiting us, and other science partners setting up throughout Hive,” Pangas announced. The week will also feature two stargazing events, one at Mount Gnomon Farm and another at the High School. “Stargazing is weather dependent, but we have indoor presentations planned just in case,” Pangas noted.
Throughout Science Week, the Hive will host special school workshops, additional planetarium sessions, and a panel discussion on art and science. The week will culminate with a “Founded Space Concert” in the planetarium and another event titled “The Art of Science and Relaxation” on August 25th.
